a new life, a new template, and a new scoreboard

Well, here is. Welcome to my re-designed blog. Happily, this one renders correctly. Let's hope that lasts.

I'm also starting the scoreboard over again. Congrats to Kimberly for winning on the last one. And congrats to Emily, for getting the Henry V quote from the last post. The final score stand as follows:

  • Kimberly: 465

  • Erin: 437

  • Paul: 279

  • Elizabeth: 263

  • Donovan: 205

  • Emily: 178

  • Margo: 107

  • Amber: 50

  • Christina: 10

We'll now start over on the points. Let me explain the rules again ... "No, there is too much. Let me sum up." (15 points for that one)

  • If you know the answer, post it to my blog. Answers will not be awarded points if submitted in person, in emails, or by any other method.

  • Even if someone else has already answered, you can still get points. (We're on the honor system here; if you say you know it, I believe you.)

  • However, you can't look the quote up. You have to know it in your head without help from others (the Internet is an other).

  • Points will no longer be awarded retro-actively; in other words, you can only get points for the quote in the current post.

In other news, a cold front has swept into the Denton area, and I've been having a fandiddlytastic time with it. (An extra 60 points if you know the term for a word embedded within another word, e.g. 'fandiddlytastic'.) I wore my black boots, black raincoat, and black Harry Lime scarf. Boy, did that feel good!

She foresaw that she was doomed to a lonely spinsterhood. (40 points)

First quote: from Princess Bride, of course!

I was weirded out to make that last comment on the other post, and then when I clicked submit, it was the new layout! Yay for the new layout!

And yay for having the first points on the board!

Dear Kat,

I see through the whole "you have to post to my blog to get the points" scheme. It's actually just a ploy to get more posts to your blog, isn't it? HA!

Since I gave you the most excellent quote for today and therefore don't get to guess at its origin, I think you should give me some extra points for bringing up "tmesis" because that's also awesome. Really though, I think if someone helps you out and gives you a really great quote that we should get 100 points. I'm totally point-grubbing, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. And also don't forget, I'm a great roommate. :)

The 15 pointer is from Princess Bride.

Love,
Erin

Oh, and I'd like to add that I think we are going to read A Christmas Carol in the book club starting the day after Thanksgiving. So save yourself some time in there to read it!!!

And what is up with your clock? It thinks it is like 8:30 at night... Really, in Utah it is 2:37. In Texas, it is 3:37. Just for the record.

Thanks for pointing out the problem with my clock, I'll be sure and fix that.

Yay for the new layout! I agree.

And yay for A Christmas Carol! That's one of my favorite books/short stories, and I read it every year for Christmas anyway, so that will be great to be able to discuss it with everyone.

Dear Erin,

Yes, it is just a ploy to get more posts on my blog. Why do you think I started giving out points in the first place?

You are a great roommate, it's true. But, unfortunately, great roommate-ness does not count for points on my blog. However, I am willing to give you 5 points for both 'tmesis' and the awesome quote, thus raising your day's total up to 25. I hope this will satisfy you. If not, I must refer you to the Compaints Department, where all complaints must be submitted by post (ie, snail mail), and there is a minimum waiting period of 67 days.

Thank you for your comments,
Kat

Hello,

You people do not know who I am, and I think that it is best that way. I would just like to say, Erin is cool. Sure, she is a bit nuts at times, and annoying, and just outright awkward; However, that is why we love her.

Cool blog, perhaps I can rack up some points myself, but as Erin already knows, all my vast knowledge is nothing more then quick typing at dictionary.com. So maybe not :(

Love,
Mario and Lugi.

I pledge to valiently strive to earn points in this, the new and improved "clean slate" quote contest. However, I fear that without Holiday Inn to push me into true contention I will remain firmly in last place. I'm sorry to inform you, Kat, that our minds simply do not move on the same movie quotes wavelength. Alas...at least I was victorious for a day or two.

I admit that I did not recognize today's movie quote until after reading the movie title. Now, of course, I can picture the entire scene in my head. Fat lot of good that does me, huh? Woe is me...

Your unfortunate movie loving friend,
Kimberly

PS - I would like to add that I do not think it fair for Erin to receive points for suggesting the quote. We all know she'll advance past us in the end. The least she could do is give us a chance at a few free points. Shameless point grubber! tsk, tsk!

O-Kat-Sweet-Kat!

First of all, the new layout looks great. Second, I'm glad you're getting a chance to enjoy some cool weather. It is cooling down here, too, but not quite quickly enough for me. (You'd think, though, that after spending most of the year in winter I wouldn't be so impatient for it to arrive again. What can I say, I guess I'm just contrary. Scott and I were counting and we think the cold-to-warm ratio we've had so far this year has been about 7.5 to 2.5 months. Sheesh.)

But on to other business. The first quote, obviously, is from Princess Bride. Good choice. I am currently banging my head against the wall trying to bring the second quote to the front of my brain, as it is firmly lodged in the back somewhere and refuses to let me place it, despite its familiarity. I am unsure about the word-within-a-word term, but feel that at some point in the future you should feature some sniglets in your blog, at any rate.

Much love as always (and tell your gorgeous roommates hello from me),

Elizabeth

So I've been thinking (and I still haven't figured out the other quote). Since points are not going to be awarded retroactively anymore, will you be posting the answers to quotes that are no longer open for points? It would save me some head banging...

Hmm, I like that idea, Elizabeth. Sure, why not? I will do that. When make a new post, I'll add a comment to the last one with the answers to those quotes.

Kat,

Well, since you wiped the slate clean, I'll give it another try:

The princess bride quote is a favorite at our house (hence Paul jumped in so quick).

And I believe you are referring to an infixed word, are you not?
